Walter's explorations beyond Goldenrod had opened his eyes in many ways. Ilex Forest had reminded him of Silent Hill, playing and dancing in the woods were precious few people would ever see or notice the orphans holding hands and skipping in circles through the trees. The small jazz club he had found in Azalea had been peaceful, with soft music and a dimly lit atmosphere that was calming to him. Not too bright or dark, the gentle light remind him of a fire's glow. In Violet City he had visited the Sprout Tower and spent a day in the nearby Ruins, exploring the strange symbols and puzzles hidden underground.
In a way, it was a relief to return somewhere familiar. In another, traveling had made him realise that he didn't enjoy living in Goldenrod. It was too large and busy for his liking. But he had connections here that were important to maintain - such as Heather Mason. He still didn't know what to make of her personally. But Assumption clearly adored her Pokemon and he had no objections to their friendship. After a month away, the Cubone was partically bouncing in his arms, so eager and happy to be seeing his friends.
As he approached the park again, he found himself smiling and leaning his head to whisper to his Pokemon. "Soon, Assumption. Very soon." The Cubone cupped his cheeks in glee, trying to contain his excitement.
